Heike Gross, 29. Januar 2012 – 26. Februar 2012What were the highlights of your trip? The trip itself was a highlight. Ghana is a very beautiful country and the Ghanaians are so very friendly and peaceful. For me the best of the trip was the work in the Babies Home. I had such a great time there, working with all the babies and kids and it was a good experience that I will never forget. I am sure that I will do this again.

Be prepared (e.g. read travel guides, read reports from other people who have already been there etc. in advance)

Do you have 3 top tips for future travellers?bring essentials for the children in the orphanage, like pencils,books,games,erasers,sharpeners,sweets,photos of you and your family and friends and so on.
bring some vitamine tablets with you which you can put into the water, because the taste of the water isn't very good.
Give us up to 10 words that sum up your experienceeverything is different to europe, a lot of waste and trash, very friendly and openhearted people, sweet and lovely children, hot and wet air, everything is green around you, animals are treaten like a thing, they try to teach discipline
Is there anything that would have made your experience better?
if there had been an other volunteer in the orphanage you would not feel alone sometimes.

Ich hatte soviel Spaß in Ghana – die Gastfreundlichkeit der Leute hat mich total begeistert. Die Arbeit im Waisenhaus hat mir genau so großen Spaß gemacht wie der Ausflug in den schönen Norden des Landes. Ich hatte eine wundervolle Zeit in Ghana – ein echt besonderes Land. Vielen Dank dafür!

Die Höhepunkte meines Aufenthalts waren die glücklichen Augen der Kinder, die nette Gastfamilie und die Landschaft.
Um mein Erlebnis zusammenzufassen würde ich sagen: interessant, viele neue Freunde, eine zweite Familie, die Erfahrung meines Lebens, entdecken einer neuen Welt.

Es ist schwierig, ein einziges Highlight hervorzuheben, denn der ganzen Aufenhalt, mit allen Höhen und Tiefen war eine tolle Erfahrung. Natürlich war es toll die Elefanten im Nationalpark zu sehen und die Tage am naturbelassenden Strand. Aber auch das Kennenlernen der Menschen, das Leben in der Gastfamilie und die Arbeit im Waisenhaus waren sehr erlebnisreich.

What were the highlights of your trip?Meine Guestfamily war einfach nur umwerfend und sowas von gastfreundlich und nett. Die Begegnungen mit allen Menschen, welche total offen und sehr, sehr hilfsbereit waren.

Is there anything that would have made your experience better?
Die Arbeit im hospital war für mich nicht ganz erfüllend, da ich insgesamt nicht so viel arbeiten, helfen konnte, wie ich mir erhofft hatte... Lag daran, dass ich andere Vorstellungen von diesem Teil des Trips hatte und dachte ich könnte als Nurse "etwas mehr mitarbeiten"...
